Tracking Kasey Kahne
Today’s race: Nextel Cup drivers head to Watkins Glen International in Watkins Glen, N.Y., for the Centurion Boats at The Glen. Coverage begins at 10 a.m. on ESPN.
Green flag: Enumclaw’s Kasey Kahne will start 28th after Nextel Cup qualifying was canceled Friday because of rain and the field was set by owner points for the cars. Although not specifically known for his road course skills, Kasey Kahne has been on the lead lap in all three races at Watkins Glen in his career. This is the ninth run for the Car of Tomorrow, which will be used for the entire 2008 season. Kasey Kahne has just three top-20 finishes in those nine races, including an 11th at Dover International Speedway in June.
Points tracker: Kasey Kahne is 27th in Nextel Cup driver standings with 1,809 points, 1,427 behind leader Jeff Gordon.
Kasey Kahne’s take: “We haven’t had great finishes, but we’ve had some positive results on the road courses. The key is keeping the race car on the track. I like the Dodge Avenger. I think it will be a competitive race car as we move forward. This will be the car we race the entire 2008 season, so we are trying to learn as much as we can about this race car.”
