Kahne staying with Evernham, open to sponsors
JOLIET, Ill. - Kasey Kahne has no plans to leave Evernham Motorsports after this season, but he isn't ruling out a sponsor change on his Dodge in 2008.
Kasey Kahne, widely reported to be a driver that Budweiser has expressed interest in, said that he could adapt to any sponsor. The driver has been sponsored by team manufacturer Dodge since he debuted with Evernham Motorsports in 2004.
Budweiser and Hendrick Motorsports confirmed Friday morning that Budweiser would not sponsor Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s car at Hendrick next season. The company has sponsored Earnhardt Jr. since 1999 when he began his NASCAR Nextel Cup career at Dale Earnhardt Inc., the team he will leave at the end of this season.
Kasey Kahne says he's not ruling out nor confirming any of the speculation surrounding him, except to say that he will be driving for team owner Ray Evernham next season. As to the sponsor situation, Kasey Kahne says he's open to anything.
"I can do whatever anybody wants to put a good deal together, and right now we're doing an awesome job with Dodge and the Dodge dealers," Kasey Kahne said Friday morning at Chicagoland Speedway. "It seems like we sell just about as much apparel as most of the guys. Things go really well at the souvenir trailer. I could stay red with Bud, I could be M&Ms, I could be anything anybody wants me to be. It's just a matter of if they really want us and if we can do it. I don't really know what happened or what will happen."
But Kasey Kahne points out that he has not spoken to any sponsors at this time.
"I've never talked to anyone from Bud or any other place other than Dodge dealers and what we've got going on," Kasey Kahne said.
