Is DEI Dreaming of Kahne?
If I were a Dale Earnhardt Inc. official, and knew that getting Danica Patrick was out of the question, the next driver I'd go after is Kasey Kahne.
It wouldn't be because I thought he was the best available driver. If I were choosing on that alone, I'd do my damnedest to persuade Greg Biffle to leave Roush. If that didn't pan out, I'd try to convince Kyle Busch that DEI was the best next home for him.
But this is DEI we're talking about. Marketing is king and that makes Kasey Kahne the best man for the job. No offense to Biffle or Busch (or Ryan Newman who'd be on my list, too), they're just not as easy a sell.
And no one's easier to sell than Kasey Kahne. Just ask Allstate--Kasey Kahne's commercials get them tons of free advertising 'cause girls want to see the blue-eyed babe wiggle his butt. (22,936 views and counting ...)

Budweiser would surely be happy to get Kasey Kahne if they stayed, but would he drive the Bud car? Budweiser wants to remain a sponsor of Dale Earnhardt Jr. and the cars he drives. But, Bud guy Tony Ponturo said that they would sponsor one car and one driver--he didn't say their one driver would necessarily be driving their one car.
One possible scenario would be for them to sponsor Kasey Kahne, or the replacement driver at DEI, with the Monster Energy brand they plan to buy and continue with Dale Earnhardt Jr. as a personal spokesperson. (And Junior would pick up a whole lot more sponsor responsibilities with Kellogg's. Wait, beer and cereal? Note to Kelley and Mr. H. - that's not what's for breakfast.)
What do you Kasey Kahne fans think? Do you want to see him go to DEI? or so you want him to stay? or go somewhere else?
