Tracking Kasey Kahne
Monday’s result: Enumclaw’s Kasey Kahne started fourth and finished 11th in the Autism Speaks 400 at Dover International Speedway in Dover, Del.
Race highlights: After the race was postponed from Sunday because of rain, NASCAR scheduled two mandatory cautions, one at lap 25 and one at lap 65. On the first caution, Kasey Kahne and his crew decided not to change tires, and came out at the front of the field. Kasey Kahne led 28 laps until Ryan Newman reclaimed the lead on lap 55, just the fourth race this season Kasey Kahne has led. Kasey Kahne stayed in the top 15 for the remainder of the race, finishing 11th, his second-best finish of the season behind a seventh-place in February’s Daytona 500. It was also his best finish in the Car of Tomorrow.
Points tracker: Kasey Kahne jumped three spots in the points standings to 29th with 1,133 points, 926 behind leader Jeff Gordon.
On the horizon: Nextel Cup drivers head to Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pa., for Sunday’s Pocono 500.
Kasey Kahne’s take: “We had our best run of the year in our Dodge Avenger (Monday) and learned a lot more about the car. … We’ve made significant improvements this weekend. We have a better handle on the Avenger and what we have to do to make it better.”
