Kasey Kahne Finds Top Form in Lowe’s Motor Speedway Nascar Busch Series Win
Evernham Motorsports driver Kasey Kahne raced to his first NASCAR Busch Series win of the season and sixth of his career from the 32nd starting position at Lowe’s Motor Speedway May 26. He led 43 of 200 race laps, but needed to drive away from second-place driver Casey Mears on the final race restart on Lap 189 to secure the win. Kasey Kahne passed the finish line 2.448 seconds ahead of Mears and has now scored one win and two top-10 finishes through seven series starts this season.
Clint Bowyer, Jeff Burton and Regan Smith rounded out the Top Five. Bowyer advanced four positions in the series standings to eighth with his sixth top-five and seventh top-10 finish of the season through nine starts. Jeff Burton also picked up four spots in the standings and stands ninth in the standings after nailing down his sixth top-five and eighth top-10 finish of 2007 through eight series events. Smith advanced three rungs on the series standings ladder into a tie for fifth by grabbing is second top-five and fourth top-10 effort of the campaign after 13 races. He has registered two top-five and three top-10 finishes in his past seven starts.
Mears collected his fifth top-five and eighth top-10 finish of the season through nine starts. He has finished in the race Top Five in two of the past four races and has scored seven straight top-10 series finishes. Roush-Fenway driver and series leader Carl Edwards kept hold of the series lead with a 17th-place Lowe’s finish, marking the second time this season and second time in the past three events he did not place in the race Top 10. The series continues its season June 2 at Dover International Speedway.
Jeff Burton won the 2006 event at the track that Kevin Harvick started from the pole position.
The current Top 10 in the series standings are: Edwards (Leader, Ford, 2075 points), Kevin Harvick (Second, Chevrolet, -423), Dave Blaney (Third, Toyota, -592), Matt Kenseth (Fourth, Ford, -644), David Reutimann (Fifth, Toyota, -682 (tied)), Smith (Fifth, Chevrolet, -682 (tied)), David Ragan (Seventh, Ford, -717), Clint Bowyer (Eighth, Chevrolet, -726), Jeff Burton (Ninth, Chevrolet, -735) and Greg Biffle (10th, Ford, -755). The series will visit Kentucky Speedway June 15-16 for “ClearChannel Cincinnati Fanfest” and the “Meijer 300 Presented by Oreo. ”
