Kahne and Johnson: New Road Course Aces?
NASCAR Nextel Cup drivers Jimmie Johnson and Kasey Kahne might be trying to get a leg up on the rest of their competitors before the series hits the two road courses later this summer.
Kasey Kahne joins fellow NASCAR NEXTEL Cup competitor Jimmie Johnson in the SCCA Pro-Racing GT Series race, which will take place following CTC's presentation of NEXTEL Cup qualifying Thursday night May 24.
"This is a neat opportunity to better myself as a road course racer," Kasey Kahne said. "With the upcoming races at Sonoma and Watkins Glen, it gives me a chance to learn more about this style of driving. I appreciate Ray Evernham giving me the opportunity to participate and have some fun at the same time."
As noted, the race will be held immediately following qualifying at Lowe's Motor Speedway for the Coca-Cola 600.
LMS does have a road course, but because of time constraints, the course will mainly be on the 1.5 mile NASCAR circuit with chicanes and other turns thrown in to the mix.
Kasey Kahne will compete in a Dodge Viper while Johnson will race in a Cadillac CTS in the SPEED World Challenge race. Johnson is pictured in the CTS during a test session for the race.
