Sunday’s result: Kasey Kahne started 30th and finished 12th in the Aaron’s 499 at Talladega Speedway in Talladega, Ala.
Race highlights: Kasey Kahne moved up into the top half of the field within the first 10 laps, taking the lead on lap 93. He led for two laps before Jimmie Johnson took the lead on lap 95. Kasey Kahne regained the lead on lap 96, but lost it for good on lap 98. He ran in the top 15 for most of remaining laps and restarted 16th on the green-white-checkered finish. After making it through the final melee, Kasey Kahne finished 12th. It is his second-best finish of the year behind his seventh-place finish in February’s Daytona 500 – his only top-15 finishes this season. Sunday is just the third time this season Kasey Kahne has led laps during a race. In the other two – February’s Auto Club 500 at California Speedway and March’s UAW-Daimler Chrysler 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway – he did not finish the race.
Points tracker: Kasey Kahne gained two spots in the Nextel Cup points standings, moving to 31st with 758 points, 763 behind leader Jeff Gordon.
